In the bustling coffee community surrounding Gatare station, competition runs high. Gatare holds the distinction of being the first establishment in the area, having opened its doors in 2003, thereby establishing its dominance.
With a track record of producing top-quality coffee for export, Gatare is nestled in the picturesque Nyamasheke district, surrounded by lush hills adorned with coffee trees. Its participation in prestigious events like the Cup Of Excellence is a testament to its commitment to excellence, facilitated by its state-of-the-art equipment including a 3-ton/hr McKinnon disc pulper and other cutting-edge machinery.
Under the stewardship of Fred since 2016, Gatare oversees operations on a modest 2-hectare plot, serving a community of over a thousand local farmers. However, amidst heightened competition, annual production has experienced a decline in recent years. The station boasts a dedicated team of 7 full-time employees, supplemented by additional seasonal workers, predominantly women. Farms in the vicinity tend to be small, averaging just 1 hectare, with some comprising as few as 10 coffee trees.
