Ethiopia is the historical home of Arabica coffee. As such, it is the home of over 1,000 species, or varietals, of the Arabica plant. There are so many species, that often they are simply unclassified and without a name.
This is why you often see the word “Heirloom” on the back of the coffee pack; the varietal has simply been handed down through the generations within the family.
The most famous coffee in the modern world, Gesha, often grown high in Central American regions actually came from the town of Gesha, Ethiopia.
There is no doubt that Ethiopian coffee really is special and amongst the best coffee in the world.
