Aside from the amazing specialty coffee we spend countless days, weeks and even months reviewing, we also take a lot of pride in another key part of our business that I find sometimes gets overshadowed in the industry. The roaster — as you’d expect, with us being a speciality coffee roastery — plays a fundamental role in what we do and how we can differentiate our speciality coffee, which is probably why we took a good 6 months picking a roaster that could not only do our speciality coffee justice, but give you the almighty coffee drinker the best coffee available.
I can safely say we’ve come a long way and are now the proud owners of one of the most advanced roasters on the market…the Coffee-Tech FZ-94 Lab Roaster (pictured above in all it’s majestic glory). Coffee-tech is still a relatively new brand to the market compared to the likes of Probat, but they have made waves in the industry over recent years, only last year winning the best new roaster award at the SCAE World of coffee event in Dublin. Based in Israel, the company manufacture advanced roasting systems with a focus on high grade coffee, or in other words; special roasters for speciality beans.
Our Coffee-tech FZ-94 roaster boasts a variety of gizmos that not all roasters are blessed with and could make Mr.Gadget squeam, from having multiple heaters, a variety of heating methods, advanced roast profiling, multiple temperature monitors and so on, but don’t take our word for it, check out the official tech and features built into this high spec of kit from their website below.
I am however by no means taking away from the skills needed as a roastmaster witnessing first hand the blood, sweat and tears that goes into learning the craft from our Head Roaster Jeremy, but having the most advanced technology at our finger tips is always a bonus and undoubtedly helps, a lot!
