We live in a world of popular culture, and particularly with health and fitness crazes I bear some skepticism to avoid those short lived fads. However, a diet which caught my eye and has created a fuss in the US is the butter coffee or Bulletproof coffee diet. Naturally my love for coffee coerced me into trying this one but also my understanding of coffee’s health properties helped, but what is Bulletproof coffee?
Butter or Bulletproof coffee is a coffee based beverage invented by Dave Asprey, who due to its early success launched the company Bulletproof coffee in 2013. The drink is made by blending fresh coffee, butter and oil, which when consumed together as part of a daily morning routine, claims to boost mental ability and help shed the pounds.
It’s common knowledge that caffeine in coffee improves your mental alertness but it also helps speed up your metabolism, which coupled with butter and oil — although high in calories, from all those fatty acids — trick the body into being fuller for longer and switch the body into fat burning mode. Its global success has seen the likes of David Beckham and Ed Sheeran using it, which might make you think its the real deal, but as with any diet, everything else you consume and the exercise you do can make or break it.
For those willing to try butter coffee I’ve listed the ingredients for those curious to know what it tastes like. I took the liberty of making one of these bad boys myself and it tastes much like a really rich creamy latte. Feel free to let us know how you get on.
