Venturing back to Colombia we introduce our second infamous Geisha varietal of the year brought to you by the Lopez family.
The Lopez family have been cultivating coffee on Finca Puerto Alegre for over 3 generations and their combined experience really helps to define the world’s best known varietal – Geisha. Each lot receives a “birth certificate” that documents and maintains traceability throughout processing. This includes additional fermentation information like PH of the sample at different stages. After fermentation, the seeds are then dried to create a complex tasting coffee with layers of fruit and spice.
GESHA 101
The Gesha varietal has seen growing popularity over the past few decades following countless Cup of Excellence awards and becoming a common go to coffee in Barista championships. To some it has gained recognition as the pinnacle of what Speciality coffee stands for due to its quality and exclusivity. Find out more about this illustrious varietal here.
Can you taste it?
This coffee builds upon the Geishas unique reputation for tropical and exotic flavours. Anaerobically washed the tasting notes are deeper and more subtle on the tongue, but it remains packed with flavour. Expect tasting notes of sweet mango with undertones of yuzu, but with an added bergamot and champagne luxury finish.
Our recommendation
As with all our most prestigious coffees we recommend drinking black (ideally using paper filter) to accentuate the complex tasting notes, but don’t be afraid to try it with milk as it still cuts nicely.
We recommend consuming this coffee between weeks 2 to 4 after its roast date, but of course, try it before or after too.
